Blog 10- lifeboat

We just started into the Midley book, two classes ago. Today we talked about her view on the lifeboat ethic. She says we're not really in lifeboats most of the time. In life we're not normally forced into moral options so stark. Like the first one says that we really only have one option and that is to save no one. She thinks that not all situations have been thought of. She asks if the lifeboat ethic is misworded or mistaken? Life is not so black and white. She says that competition is real but not the only thing that happens. It depends on how we think of those swimming in the water - could be a competitor or a potential benefit. Individual competiton ignores solidarity.
I agree with her. Life has more options than just one option. Evryone has a lot of choices it just depends on how you decide to to deal with the options. Life has gray areas not just black and white. Competition happens but it isn't the only thing that happens.
